Book Sales to benefit the center

The value of the book is educational. The idea and implementation is reproducible with any service project. Most importantly youth feel empowered and connected with their world. "We are global citizens now", said 11 year old youth volunteer Toby Schwartz.

This book describes the rise of an unusual grassroots award winning program that demonstrates the remarkable opportunities opened up for youth through service programs. The book "Raising Social Entrepreneurs/Chess Without Borders" describes the the talents and skills mobilised to accomplish the projects they create. Chess Without Borders has raised over $220,000 through youth driven service projects for local and global charities. The benefits for the community are academic, social and economic. Besides the wide variety of projects ranging from distributing chess supplies and/or starting chess clubs locally as well as in Borneo, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Uganda, Jordan and Sri Lanka the program has also sponsored long term projects such as establishing a computer center in India and hosting a dinner for ex prisoners and their families in Chicago. These youth led projects have enriched the lives of both the benefactors as well as the beneficiaries. Youth developed public speaking, marketing, technological and creative skills in addition to enhancing academic goals. The success of the chess program was achieved through youth volunteerism as paradoxically youth learned chess faster than adults so became teachers while the parents assisted.
