Sponsoring a Christmas Lunch for ex prisoners

I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so his place will be proud of him.

The Barrington community has nurtured youth to lead social entrepreneurial projects that have benefitted local and global communities. Since 2000 teams with youth led projects raised over $250,000 for humanitarian projects. For example for the last 10 years the community has sponsored a Christmas lunch for ex prisoners and their families. A team of volunteers raises funds, gathers used winter clothing and household items to donate at the actual event. About 20 volunteers travel to Chicago to serve lunch and host the event held in December each year. Here is a video from one such event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjywsL0qseE&t=1s&ab_channel=KiranFrey

There are several unique aspects to this event. All the funds raised and gifts collected go directly to the guests, community members are able to share a meal and hear the heart warming stories of survival and loss and most inspiring are the youth who lead the team in their fundraising efforts. Through their social entrepreneurial experiences many youth have gone on to advance their work as humanitarians with larger and more responsible programs winning awards and honors for their unusual combination. This year 11 year-old Jack Weed, from Barrington Middle School will lead this project and will help with all aspects of the project.

The Christmas event for the ex prisoners and their families is run by Reverend Tommy Johnson at the Open Door Baptist Church in Chicago. Peter Wulff Center and Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington are proud to support Outside the Walls, a ministry dedicated to providing resources and support to families in need.
